Into Kurdistan: frontiers under fire

Foreword

It is extraordinary that there has been so little media coverage of the atrocities committed against the Kurdish people. I was shocked to learn about the scale of the genocide, the extent of the use of chemical weapons and the apparent lack of international outrage.

I knew very little about the Kurds and am pleased to have been given such an excellent introduction to this remarkable people and their music.

We follow Sheri Laizer's journey into a culture very different from her own - a journey through friendships, acceptance and marriage, from the outside to the inside.

Her book provides an insight into the Kurdish way of life, especially through the songs, which are at the heart of their culture and their political struggle. It is impossible not to be moved by this extraordinary account of a proud, passionate and resilient people.
