AVANT-PROPOS Anniversaire de La mort de l’Emir Kamuran Âli Bedir Khan
Nous sommes heureux de publier dans ce numéro les actes du colloque international que l’Institut kurde de Paris a organisé le 14 décembre 2018 à l’occasion du 40e anniversaire de la disparition de l’émir Kamuran Bedir Khan. Le colloque organisé à la mairie du 10e arrondissement de Paris a réuni des spécialistes de la dynastie Bedir Khan, comme des intellectuels qui l’ont connu et qui ont apporté leurs témoignages. Les actes du colloque réunis dans ce numéro spécial, ainsi que de nombreux articles de presse et interviews de l’émir constitueront sans doute une précieuse documentation pour les chercheurs désireux de connaître le rôle de l’émir Kamuran Bedir Khan et le rôle des Bedir Khanis dans l’histoire kurde.

In this paper, my goal is to provide a brief overview of the – frankly quite fascinating – historical trajectory of the Ottoman-Kurdish Bedirhani family.1 This represents a rather daunting task, as there are several hundred family members to consider and, if I were to be rigorous with my time frame, several centuries to cover.
